firearms for home defense

I, like many other gun owners, have some sort of firearm for home defense. A lot of people who aren't experienced in firearms don't exactly know what they should use for home defense. It's actually not as difficult as you would think to find the right self defense firearm for you.
A lot of people use either pistols or shotguns for home defense. Pistols are compact, so they are perfect for close quarters scenarios. Shotguns can be designed to be more compact with pistol grips, and shortened barrels. Also, if someone is breaking into your house, nothing scares a burglar like the sound of a round being chambered into a pump action shotgun.
When it comes to pistols, I would recommend any pistol that shoots the .45 ACP caliber. The .45 acp caliber is a slow traveling, but high impact round. The round can penetrate damn near any material in it's way. The round is also very accurate. I would recommend either buying the Colt 1911 pistol, or the Glock 22. Both of the pistols are pretty affordable and are very easy to clean. I would also recommend you use R.I.P rounds as well. R.I.P rounds are specifically used for home defense. On impact, R.I.P rounds break apart and shoot out in multiple directions. It's a very nasty round, but it works pretty well.
When it comes to shotguns for home defense, you don't need anything fancy. If it shoots slugs, then it'll work just fine. You can find shotguns anywhere from 150 dollars to 5000 dollars. Honestly it doesn't really matter. The only thing I can say about getting a shotgun for home defense is to make sure the barrel isn't too long for one. I'd say have a 16 inch barrel on the shotgun at the longest. You don't need a pistol grip on it, but it'll feel better in your hands with that grip.
There are some people who use carbine type rifles for home defense as well, which could also work. Carbine type rifles shoot pistol calibers. The Carbine increases the range capabilities of the pistol round, but since it's home defense, range doesn't really matter.
I hope this helps at least a little in trying to find a home defense firearm.
